THIS SITE RECORDS THE HISTORY OF EARLY VICTORIAN (1837) PIONEER SETTLERS, SCOTTISH BORN, WILLIAM ROBERTSON (1795-1891) AND WIFE MARION (MCGILCHRIST) ROBERTSON (1793-1866), OF WOOLING HOMESTEAD, NEW GISBORNE, - THIRD GREAT PATERNAL GRANDPARENTS OF FIFTH GENERATION DESCENDANT LYNETTE (POWER) MAHER AND THE CONTRIBUTION THE ROBERTSON'S MADE TO THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF GISBORNE, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA.
Hi Lyn & Alan Thanks for the update and also the "new look" which is so easy to follow. I really enjoy reading the family history which I frequently revisit. Best regards DM.
Hi Lyn & Alan I really appreciate what you are both doing to record the history of William Robertson for descendants such as myself. The re-freshened website looks great. I particularly welcomed the larger text, liked the addition of colour and welcomed the opportunity to be able to easily make a comment. Please keep up the good work.
Dear Alan and Lyn - thank you for continuing to maintain the information for this website. I certainly appreciate it. With kind regards, Vicki Cowling.
Dear Lyn and Alan Thank you for your e-mail which made me have another look at the Robertson website which I had not visited for quite some time. The work that you have both done on behalf of us Robertsons is commendable to say the least. I particularly liked the Culloden - Bonnie Prince Charlie/Flora McDonald story which you have covered so well. I remember learning about Bonnie Prince Charlie when I was in primary school MANY years ago.
Hi Lyn & Alan We have just opened the Robertson website and really appreciate the time and effort you have put in to document the Robertson history. Please keep us informed of any change/updates that you make. Thanks again Marj & Tony S
Hi Lyn & Alan Your recent update encouraged me to get out my Robertson DVD which I enjoyed when I first played it and really enjoyed replaying again. I also appreciate your commitment to the Robertson website which very much compliments the DVD. Six years since we met on Robertson Descendants Day - are you contemplating another? MT Victoria
Glad that you enjoyed replaying the DVD and appreciate your comments re the website which remains a labour of love. As for another Robertson Descendants Day - We would need to know that such an occasion would be well supported before deciding on that. Best regards Lyn & Alan
Hi Lyn and Alan Love the You Tube video clips which I would never have seen or known about if not for your wonderful Robertson website. I hope that others enjoy the videos as much as my wife and I have. Best regards J & R S
The video link is new to the website courtesy of Ed Robertson of Ohio USA who we thank for his outstanding contribution to the Robertson/Clann Donnachaidh history. Well done Ed.
I see from the Robertson website that you are offering a copy of the family tree for descendants. I am a great great grandson of Lillias Robertson (1826-1913) who married William Bertram. I have a poor (hand written) Bertram family tree from 30 years ago and would love to see a full family tree of her descendants. I also have some wedding photos of my grandparents in 1907 which include all the siblings, and would be of interest to their descendants if I could find them.
1. Happy to prepare/forward a personal Descendants chart for you relative to Lillias Robertson.
2. As we are in the process of adding an additional link to the Robertson website (one for each of William Robertson’s six children) to which we will be adding information/photos etc relative to each child and their descendants, we would welcome receiving; (a) A scanned (highest definition) copy of your Bertram Family tree (b) A scanned (highest definition) copy of your grandparents 1907 wedding photos and any other photos that you may be able to provide.
3. The Robertson Family tree is short of some details which hopefully you will be able to provide for their inclusion. We have advised of the missing information in a seperate e-mail and look forward to hearing from you in regard to this and the above matters.
Four pages relative to William Robertson/Marion (McGilchrist) Robertson are currently in construction mode as are seven pages relative to their children. When completed they will collectively contain hundreds of photographs/documentation etc sourced as well as provided to us by Robertson descendants. An e-mail will be sent to all on the Robertson mailing list as soon as this work is completed. As this is a reasonably large exercise we do not anticipate these pages will be available for viewing for around 6-8 weeks. Having said that we do believe that all who access the links when they are opened will consider the wait well and truly worthwhile. We hope that you will agree. Lyn & Alan
My wife and I are quite taken by your Robertson website and visit it on regular occasions to see what has recently been published and read the comments made by others. Today was no exception as we discovered your Robertson Family Tree Branches link which was not there last time we looked at the website. Very pleased to see that our family name is recorded. We are both looking forward to seeing the other links when they become available. A fantastic site, particularly for those of us who proudly claim descent from William Robertson & Marion McGilchrist. TS A fourth great grandson.
I was directed to your website by TS and wife who are both converts to the Robertson website which really is a great one. What a great family history to look back on. Keep up the good work. AS.
Thanks AS. We enjoy working on the website and are pleased to see that others appreciate what we are doing to record for posterity as much of the history of early Victorian Pioneer William Robertson as we can. Lyn & Alan
We are pleased to advise that we have completed our update of the Robertson Website including the addition of a number of additional links containing some hundreds of photos/documents and the like.
The updated site will be available for viewing in its entirety as from today Friday 13 2018.
There is a considerable amount of detail over the entire site and while we have taken care during our update, it is likely if not probable that we have made some errors.
Because of this and in the best interests of historical accuracy your feed back is important to us. In this regard we welcome your feed back to enable us to correct any factual errors and the like that you may notice.
Similarly we would be pleased to add any photos/documents/information that you may have to the website.
We hope that you enjoy viewing the refreshed website/links.
Having just received your e-mail I took the opportunity to have a quick look to see what changes had been made and was delighted to see so many old photographs and newspaper cuttings. Thank you Lyn & Alan for providing us with such a wonderful record of the Robertson family and their descendants. SC
We are fortunate to live in a time when family records etc can be so easily viewed and shared with others. While the internet may have a lot to answer for - this is not one of those occasions. Lyn & Alan
I have just become aware that I am a descendant of Marion Robertson and was delighted to be able to read so much of her family history. Thank's so much. TW
Good morning Lyn & Alan My brother (TW) has just given me the Robertson website address and I intend to spend the day having a close look at the wealth of information it provides. A fantastic effort on your part. Can you please add me to your mailing list. Thanks JW
Can't imagine where we would all be today if William Robertson had not brought his family to Hobart Town so many years ago. Thanks William. BT and family
I have just read the Memoirs of James McGilchrist and was taken by the hardships that he endured in his early life. One wonders how the present generation would have coped with life's difficulties that appeared to follow him most places. The Burra History was a welcome addition to his written memoirs. B Y (Victoria)
On a recent trip to the Flinders Ranges we detoured to Burra and visited the Burra Cemetery where James McGilchrist (nephew of Marion McGilchrist and William Robertson) and his wife Mary (Stokes), (daughter of Marion Robertson) are buried. Lyn & Alan
I have some old photos which I would like to have added to the Robertson website. Can you please let me know the best way to get them to you. Many thanks for this wonderful record of William Robertson and family. WB
Hi Alan, thanks for posting the Macedon Ranges Shire Council Heritage Study Report, particularly for those with a William Robertson connection. The report certainly presents Gisborne in a new light to me as it has turned back the years to days gone by. Walter J
19.11 2022 Hi Alan Thank you for all the amazing hours you have spent on Lyn’s and my family history. I know you did it with love of Lyn and in her memory. Still generously sharing it is wonderful. Carole

ReplyDeleteI also have been very busy moving from California to Ohio four years ago and doing a full remodel on the family home.
Hopefully one day we shall meet. I hope to create more You Tube clips, but with my busy life -
maybe later this year or for sure in 2019.
